1 Week In

Alright now is the time to get yourself ready. Make sure you have plenty of water and meat and veggies in the house. Have a decent supply of acceptable fruits and make sure there is no crap in your house if you have weak will power! For the next 5-7 days you will have to fight to keep your sanity. Have your sonsors number ready and let's walk through this together.

  1. I've found the easiest way to stay on track and avoid will power issues is to simply make sure you're always stocked with enough veggies, meat, and (depending on your goals) fruit. Really, the only times that I even consider having a sub-optimal meal is when I'm out of food at home and I'm driving home from a workout. The other thing that helps me out a ton is purposely making double the amount that I need for a meal (like when I'm making dinner) so that I always have leftovers in the fridge. This will always prevent you from using "I don't have time to prepare a meal right now" as an excuse.

  2. I really thought I was going to breeze through this challenge after the first week went so well. Then almost instantly as the clock chimed the start of week 2 my body went into Marshawn-Lynch-beast-mode hunger pangs. Holy crap Rudy was right, days 8-14 are "gonna f***ing suck!" And for me, knowing that and accepting that is what I can use to get through it. Sugar-coating and denial won't work for me, so I'm armed and ready with a fridge full of meat and a coffee cup full of bitter dirt water, yay!

  3. Quick Question: I'm reading all kinds of info back and forth about pickled/fermented vegetables (ie., olives, pickles, kimchi) ... I didn't see them mentioned in our Paleo booklets (unless it's under condiments?) and I'd be grateful for a ruling.

Are kalamata olives ok? I rinsed the ones I bought and am storing in EVOO with a low-salt garlic brine I made.

  4. PS: the reason why I'm asking is because I want to make this tonight: http://paleodietlifestyle.com/olive-garlic-lemon-chicken/

  5. i have to make treats for work tomorrow. similar to being on paleo and getting the golden ticket to visit Charlie in his Chocolate Factory. so far, i have made chocolate dipped marshmallows with reeses pieces, coconut, and honey roasted peanuts, butterfinger bars, chocolate and pumpkin muffins, cinnamon and chocolate coffee cake, and lemon poppyseed scones. so here i sit, waiting to get it all out of my house. i have to say, i may or may not have licked a beater or two and ate one marshmallow. i still consider this a victory. there is not a muffin, piece of cake, cookie bar, or muffin unaccounted for. :) i asked kitty to come over and be my sponsor and she said, "no way" because she would cave for sure.

  6. Beth offered an alternative way for me to be her sponsor while Willy Wonka'ing her kitchen, which involved putting some duck tape on her mouth and signing it before she started making treats, and then checking back to make sure it was still in tact. That would involve an extra, possibly more difficult challenge - not talking! Meanwhile, I'm on my 3rd piece of fruit today, one over my self imposed quota, but really an exception during this lovely challenge. Amazing how I have had not a morsel of chocolate/candy or diet soda for over a week. I'm already beginning to rethink my eating post-challenge, but will have to assess the end result first.
